The interior of Southbank reflects the urban setting but also takes inspiration from the surrounding nature. Soft curves and marine tones are the bedrock of the scheme whilst the warmth of timber is introduced through the flooring, bespoke joinery and furniture. Earthy textures of ochre burgundy and green can be found in the metal work and custom feature terrazzo table. Planting is used to enhance wellbeing and soften the harder materials of stone, tile and concrete. Paying homage to the fabric of the building the cast concrete columns and ceilings were left exposed giving the interior depth and texture. A variety of lighting fixtures were used to help zone the space. Concentrated task lighting elevates the counter and retail area, additions of wall and pendant lighting allow a more ambient atmosphere to the dining space.
Located on Dublin’s south canal, at Harold’s Cross bridge, Southbank is a space designed to connect people. Catering to all within the community, this neighbourhood café embodies good quality food and coffee delivered in a warm and welcoming environment. Our brief was to appeal to a wide demographic of customer, creating an adaptable layout that functions for the busy grab + go trade and also those dining in.
